Emerging from his artistic doctoral research, Nathan’s solo playing explores his own idiosyncratic approaches to the double bass and the instrument’s endless sonic possibilities. Alongside utilizing newly developed extended techniques, custom made buzzers, and preparations for the double bass, Nathan also draws on other instruments close to him, including the Wagogo overtone flute from Tanzania, custom made instruments, found objects, voice, and field recordings.

Nathan is currently working on a new solo album that continues his theme of resonance, this time exploring recordings in outdoor and naturally resonant spaces, as well as continuing his investigation of resonance between people and nature and between people from diverse backgrounds within the context of intercultural musical duets. His forthcoming album, titled Resonant Spaces, is due to be released in June 2024.
